There is a time when you look in the mirror and realize that you are at peace with your life and how things are working out.
To be honest I am in uncharted waters. I had never been terminated from any position over my 40+ years of employment. I consider myself a loyal employee. I show up and try my best every single day. I do not jump between jobs. I was employed for 9 years with the same company before joining the BOB. I was just short of 13 years when this happened.
On October 5th of this year, I was asked to meet my leader at Denny’s and I was informed that I was no longer employed. It hit me hard as I like to do things on my timeline. However, it was not a huge surprise. The good thing about this situation was the fact that a plan was in place for me to put in my two-week notice just a week later. Things had not been good for a few months. The combination of my leader and I losing confidence in each other does not make a great working environment. The change of direction had been in the works for a few months. My wife and I had spoken about it and realized a change was needed. This meeting just put the wheels in motion sooner than we had expected.
It has been 30 days since I was “let go” . It is a scary time, as we are now down to one income stream. We have opened a new small business and things look promising at this time. I miss so many people that I used to work with. My leadership team, the great associates, most customers, and the other leaders from around the area. There are so many people that impacted my career for 13 years. I will miss seeing and interacting with them. I wake up each day with a newfound sense of excitement. Each day is on me! No one is coming to help out and I am cool with that. The change was needed.
So where do we go from here? I have started a new business that seems to be taking off. I have also been contacted to do some consulting in the areas of time management and organization in the retail space. I will be a contributing writer for a few sites concentrating on Retail management, customer engagement, and employee relationships. These will be, good, bad and ugly types of articles, addressing several areas in the retail world.
This site will focus on those two areas, along with small business web development and social media presence for small businesses. So stay tuned. Think about subscribing to get the scoop on what is happening at Manage The Mayhem.

I will be writing each week on this blog about my experience in the retail world. The good, the bad and the ugly will be addressed. If you are looking for me to bash my former employer, you will be disappointed. I loved working for Orange and will continue to support that company with my heart and funds. I will write about my experiences and will address some of the areas of retail that are tough to deal with. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Take care everyone, be kind, and never lose sight of who you are!
